On September 8, 2026, UNIACERO welcomed a delegation from FISCA to our manufacturing facility in Tianjin. The visit focused on Fire Pipe production, laboratory testing and the quality controls used during manufacturing.
The meeting was built around practical project questions. How are customer specifications transferred to the production line? Which points are checked before the finished pipes leave the factory? What information should buyers confirm before placing an order?
After the initial discussion, the delegation visited our production workshop and laboratory to see these processes firsthand.
A Practical Discussion About Fire Pipe Projects
Our team first introduced UNIACERO’s fire protection pipe manufacturing capabilities and discussed the information required before production begins.
For a Fire Pipe order, nominal size alone is not enough. The applicable standard, wall thickness or schedule, length, surface finish, end preparation and approval requirements must also be confirmed.
These details affect the production route, inspection scope and quotation. Clarifying them before an order is placed helps avoid differences between the purchaser’s specification, the manufacturer’s offer and the contractor’s installation requirements.

Inside the Fire Pipe Production Workshop
The FISCA delegation then entered the workshop to review the main manufacturing stages.
Production and Dimensional Control
During the tour, our team introduced the production process for ERW steel pipe, including strip preparation, forming, welding, sizing and straightening.
Production staff check the finished pipes against the purchase requirements for outside diameter, wall thickness, length, straightness and surface condition. These are measurable characteristics that can be recorded during inspection.
Pipe-end preparation was another part of the discussion. Depending on the project, pipes may require plain, beveled, threaded or grooved ends. The selected end must be compatible with the pipe dimensions, wall thickness, fittings and installation method.
A mismatch at this stage may require additional processing and can delay installation.
Surface Finish and Identification
Fire protection pipes may be supplied with black, painted or galvanized surfaces according to the order. The correct finish depends on the system environment and project specification.
Pipe markings and shipping documents also help identify the standard, size and production information associated with the delivered material. When an order contains several sizes or batches, clear identification makes receiving inspection easier.

FISCA Delegation Visits the Testing Laboratory
The delegation also visited our laboratory, where the discussion moved from production to testing.
Our staff introduced metallographic examination and explained how it can be used to review the material structure and weld area. Depending on the product standard and agreed inspection plan, other checks may cover chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, flattening performance and leak integrity.
For projects specifying ASTM A795 Fire Pipe, buyers should confirm the required pipe type, grade, dimensions and testing route before production. The ASTM A795/A795M standard covers black and hot-dip galvanized welded and seamless steel pipe intended for fire protection use.
The standard requires leak-integrity testing. Hydrostatic testing is normally used, while nondestructive electric testing may be accepted as an alternative under the conditions stated in the specification and purchase order.
Testing requirements should be agreed before manufacturing begins, especially when the buyer requires additional inspection reports or third-party witnessing.
Approval Requirements Must Match the Order
Some fire protection projects specify UL Listed Fire Pipe, while others require FM Approved Fire Pipe. These requirements should not be treated as interchangeable.
Before placing an order, buyers should verify that the manufacturer, product type and required size range appear in the applicable listing or approval record. A general certificate or logo does not prove that every pipe configuration is covered.
The FISCA visit was a factory and laboratory exchange. It should not be interpreted as a product certification, factory approval or purchasing commitment from FISCA.

What Buyers Should Include in a Fire Pipe RFQ
The factory discussion highlighted several details that help manufacturers prepare an accurate quotation:
- Applicable standard and material grade;
- NPS, DN or specified outside diameter;
- Wall thickness or pipe schedule;
- Required length and quantity;
- Black, painted or galvanized finish;
- Plain, beveled, threaded or grooved ends;
- UL, FM or third-party inspection requirements;
- Required certificates and inspection records;
- Packing method, destination and delivery schedule.
Providing these details together reduces follow-up questions and makes competing quotations easier to compare.
Continuing the Exchange With Fire Protection Professionals
The visit ended with an open discussion between the FISCA delegation and our team. Guests received Steel Pipe Insider certificates as a record of their production workshop and laboratory tour.
We appreciate the time FISCA members spent with our production and inspection teams. Visits like this give both sides a clearer view of how drawings, standards and approval requirements are handled inside the factory.

FAQs:
1. What Did FISCA Review During the Factory Visit?
The delegation visited the production workshop and laboratory. Discussions covered Fire Pipe manufacturing, dimensional control, end preparation, testing, inspection records and project documentation.
2. Was the Visit a FISCA Certification or Factory Approval?
No. It was a factory visit and technical exchange. It should not be presented as a certification, approval, endorsement or purchasing commitment.
3. Which Standard Is Commonly Specified for Steel Fire Pipe?
ASTM A795/A795M is specifically intended for black and galvanized welded or seamless steel pipe used in fire protection systems. Some projects may specify ASTM A53 or ASTM A135.
4. Does Every Fire Pipe Require UL Listing or FM Approval?
No. The requirement depends on the project, destination market and authority having jurisdiction. Buyers should follow the approved project specification.
5. What Is Checked During Fire Pipe Production?
Checks may cover outside diameter, wall thickness, length, straightness, surface condition, weld quality and end preparation. The exact inspection scope depends on the standard and purchase order.
6. What Tests May Be Required for Fire Pipe?
Depending on the applicable standard, testing may include chemical analysis, mechanical testing, flattening tests, dimensional inspection and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric testing.
7. Can Fire Pipe Be Supplied With Grooved or Threaded Ends?
Yes. It may be supplied with plain, beveled, grooved or threaded ends. The end preparation must match the dimensions, wall thickness, fittings and installation design.
8. What Documents Should Buyers Request?
