API 5L Product Specification Level (PSL)

API 5L specification includes two product specification levels (PSLs). These are PSL1 and PSL2.

API 5L PSL-1

This is a standard quality used for pipelines. The requirements for PSL-1 are more basic compared to PSL-2. PSL-1 pipes do not require extensive testing like PSL-2. The chemical and mechanical properties are less stringent than PSL-2.

API 5L PSL-2

PSL-2 has more stringent requirements compared to PSL-1. It sets stricter chemical, and mechanical properties, and testing requirements. For instance, PSL-2 requires Charpy impact testing, while PSL-1 does not. Additionally, PSL-2 pipes need to be traceable after the completion of tests, and they also undergo a mandatory hydrostatic test. The chemical composition for PSL-2 is also more detailed and specific, ensuring that the pipe achieves higher performance in various applications.

Production Tolerance of API 5L
